Buxom is a brand that I haven’t really explored all that much, but what I have tried has been enough to impress; the same goes for these latest releases, the Tropicolor Tease Collection and the new Smokysexy Kajal Powder Liners. And because I’m a sucker for details, how cute is the flower print on the packaging?

Va-Va-Plump Shiny Liquid Lipstick (CAN $24.00/each) | All four of these Va-Va-Plump shades are limited edition and definitely oh-so-perfect for the season. Bearing the same lip-plumping formula as the others in this range, the colours are seriously vivid — and definitely long lasting. The flocked doe-foot applicator picks up more than enough product per swipe for full coverage and the finish is definitely glossy, and while it will transfer through eating and/or drinking, you’re also left with a stain behind that basically lasts until [physically] removed.
- Heat Wave – bright orange
- Guava Kiss – magenta
- Paradise Found – strawberry red/coral
- Deep Dive – fuchsia/mauve
Big Tease Plumping Mascara (CAN $27.00/each) | Bearing the same lash-plumping formula as the black version, both here are limited edition colourful shades. The oversize conical brush has densely packed bristles which serves to lay down a healthy amount of colour per swipe, and you can use the tapered point to reach smaller lashes as well. I personally prefer a volumizing mascara and Big Tease certainly falls into that category, with the added bonus of staying true throughout the wearing without displaying any flaking or smudging. Of the two, Vivid Violet is definitely easier to wear and looks stunning against green eyes, and while I’ve been known to layer on bright hues such as Tropical Teal for maximum lash impact, something like this is often easier to sport either alone along the lower lash line, or worn applied at the outer tips over a base of black mascara.
- Tropical Teal – turquoise/teal green
- Vivid Violet – aubergine
Sexysmoky Kajal Powder Liner (CAN $26.00/each) | I confess that both liquid and gel liners scare me a bit, but pen versions I can do; these come with a specialized delivery system that pumps out with every twist (the base), and the conical sponge tip makes application ridiculously easy as well, although not for drawing fine lines. The “wet powder” formula is highly pigmented and you can smudge it out for a blurred, smoky effect which also displays excellent staying power once set. BONUS: paraben, sulfate, and phthalate free.
- Smoldering Brown – deep brown
- Sultry Black – charcoal black
After playing with the pieces shown here, I definitely need to dive deeper into this brand; well made products at a good price point, and easily accessible as well? Sounds like a winning formula to me. And unlike the rest of the year, something about Summertime & the heat makes me want to crack out brighter shades: the Tropicolor Tease Collection totally fits the bill … although I do believe I’ll limit all that colour to one facial feature at a time. There’s only so much this neutral-lover will stretch things to.
